The cable is not the protocol
HDL documents dedicated Buspro cable and product-specific alternatives. Its cable page describes a shielded four-core/two-pair cable; the linked Buspro/DALI controller manual provides its own Buspro cable table and recommends hand-in-hand connection for that product.

Use the exact device instructions for data polarity, power/common, shield treatment, permitted cable type, length and topology. Do not generalise one module's wiring table to every HDL range. Even where Cat5E is specified, a Buspro connection is not Ethernet and must never be connected to a LAN/PoE port by appearance alone.

Bus power and downstream lighting power differ
Calculate supply capacity and voltage drop from the installed modules, using approved supply and distribution arrangements. Do not casually parallel supplies. A controller can have separate bus, mains-input and DALI connections; read each terminal's function and rating independently.

In particular, a DALI connection's polarity behaviour is not permission to reverse Buspro power/data connections. The MDL64-BP.53 is an example of separate Buspro and DALI domains, not a universal wiring template. DALI must not be assumed safe-to-touch SELV, and fixed installation belongs to an appropriately licensed electrician.

Protocol concepts
The commissioning project associates device identities, channels and control targets. A network gateway can provide a supported software-facing path, but it is not interchangeable with a generic serial adapter. Matching the electrical interface does not supply the missing Buspro application commands or device definitions. A successful command or saved target is not independent proof that an output physically operated.

Specifications and access
HDL's official download/support entry point and individual product manuals are linked below. They are useful installation/configuration resources, not a verified complete open normative Buspro wire-protocol standard. The public downloads page may require a normal browser to reveal its library; request the exact Buspro protocol/API document, firmware applicability and licence/access terms from HDL or its authorised support channel.

Do not treat a mirrored UDP document or an unofficial reverse-engineered implementation as the official specification. Confirm software access, commissioning support and a project-backup handover before deployment. Protect control-network access and avoid trying arbitrary commands on active loads.
