Following the DMX/Art-Net/sACN interface guide, this deliberately simple example uses a physical console and a complete mains-powered RGB wash fixture. It is more like a small accent/event light than a concealed domestic downlight, but every lighting/control block is identifiable.

The complete signal and power path
The Obey 3's physical colour faders/buttons generate DMX. A DMX lead carries the data to a SlimPAR T12BT ILS; its internal decoder, driver and LEDs make the light. The last DMX output is terminated. Each mains-powered device has its own specified supply: the desk uses the supplied external adapter, while the fixture has its own internal auto-ranging mains supply and supplied power cord. DMX data cable does not power the light.
Priced equipment subtotal: AUD341.64 (about USD235.73).

Required leads and regional accessories
Add a suitable three-pin 120-ohm DMX cable: shielded twisted pair with the appropriate XLR connectors, between controller output and fixture input. Its cost is excluded as requested, but the lead is required. The priced terminator is a separate physical item, not a claim that leaving the last socket open is equivalent. The factory-pack external desk supply is specified by Chauvet as 9V DC, 500mA; use the supplied one, not a retailer summary's conflicting 12V description. Order Australian retail packs with appropriate AU mains plug/cord arrangements for both products, and confirm those regional accessories with the supplier before ordering. No PC, USB-to-DMX adapter, Ethernet node or subscription is required.

The fixture was listed with four units in stock; the terminator had low Melbourne stock and no Sydney pickup stock. The console page advertised a price but did not establish immediate stock. These are indicative supplier offers, not a reservation or delivered quote.

Commissioning that actually matches
The Obey 3 is a three-channel RGB controller, not a universal desk for every DMX personality. The exact SlimPAR T12BT ILS manual offers three- and seven-channel modes. Select three-channel mode and DMX starting address 001: channel 1 is red, 2 green, 3 blue, each 0–255. Use the desk's manual RGB control mode, then check each colour and the physical blackout control. Selecting the seven-channel personality would introduce other functions and is not the same compatible setup. This is a documented channel-map match, not a hardware test claim.

The console's blackout provides a physical “lights out” control, but it is not electrical isolation. No separate wall light switch/controller has been silently assumed. The fixture also has Bluetooth/ILS features, but those are not used or required here. Do not enable a conflicting master/slave mode on the same chain.

Wiring, safety and complexity
There is ordinary factory mains flex to the fixture and adapter, plus the DMX data lead and final terminator. This is not an Ethernet connection: a three-pin XLR audio cable is not automatically suitable DMX cable. Follow the actual equipment's connector/pinout instructions; do not connect a household Cat5e lead to something merely because another DMX product uses RJ45.

For this minimum example, place the fixture securely on its supplied floor-standing bracket in its permitted dry indoor location. Ceiling/truss mounting would additionally need suitable rated mounting and safety hardware, not included here. No DIY mains work is proposed; permanent wiring is an electrician's job. Setup is low-to-moderate difficulty: addressing, mode selection, cable discipline and physical placement rather than programming.

Expansion without misleading per-light costs
The desk is reusable. An additional identical fixture is AUD238.00 (about USD164.22) plus its required DMX lead and suitable power; the final terminator moves to the new end. An Obey 3 repeats its RGB values rather than becoming an independently programmable multi-fixture architectural controller. A constant-voltage LED-strip alternative would need an explicitly matched strip, voltage-rated DC supply, DMX PWM decoder, enclosure and protection; none should be assumed included in a cheap strip-only price.

Art-Net and sACN are optional Ethernet transport additions for a larger system, not missing parts of this working direct DMX path.

Price basis
Prices checked 8 November 2026 (Australia/Sydney). These are Australian listings, not US kits. USD figures are converted equivalents using RBA 6 November 2026: AUD1 = USD0.6900, rounded to cents; converted totals use the unrounded AUD sum. GST is confirmed only where stated above; the other extracted listings did not establish tax inclusion. Stock and offers can change. Subtotals exclude shipping, cables/building wiring, duties if importing, labour and the separately identified site items. No purchases or hardware testing are claimed.
