The introduction describes KNX. This budget goes further: a current, exact-model TP setup with manufacturer-published ETS6 support, a physical wall control and a complete light.

The complete control path
MDT Glass Push-button II Light physical touch surface → powered KNX TP twisted-pair bus → MDT AKS relay output → EGLO FUEVA 5 ordinary mains luminaire. The wall control and actuator contain their bus couplers. No central automation server, internet gateway or KNX IP router is needed for this direct switching path.

Five costed equipment lines
These are German supplier prices, including German VAT (19% where explicitly shown), plus freight. They are not Australian retail or approval claims. Equipment subtotal: EUR 536.79 / AUD 871.27 / USD 601.18. This is a coherent European control-device-and-light subtotal, not a landed or installed price. It includes the light, physical control, powered bus, actuator and commissioning interface. Do not add export VAT refunds or import GST by guesswork.

Remaining required-item checklist
  • Approved KNX TP installation cable (typically green sheathed, two twisted pairs; only the prescribed conductors are used), KNX terminals/connectors, a suitable wallbox and the panel mounting hardware.
  • DIN enclosure/space, protection, mains supply wiring and compliant luminaire connection. These are site-specific quote items, not free omissions.
  • A supported Windows PC, a compatible USB lead and ETS6. This example explicitly reuses the commissioner's PC/tools; price them separately if you do not have them.
Documented software route
MDT publishes ETS4/5/6 product data for Glass Push-button II Light .01 and ETS5/6 data for AKS Standard 10 A .03. The button manual describes physical-address and application loading through an MDT USB interface. This is manufacturer-documented support, not an assumption that every old database will import successfully.

KNX Association offers a free five-device ETS trial. This deliberately small project fits that limit even allowing for the supply/interface; no additional paid licence is assumed for this example. Larger projects need the appropriate licence or an integrator's licensed service. Configure the button's one-bit switch object and the selected relay channel on the same group address, download, test and retain the project backup. No extra DCA/icon-import software is required for this simple Light-series switching example.

Complexity, Australia and expansion
Electrical installation is licensed work; ETS addressing, parameterisation and diagnostics are moderate-to-high learning effort. The source prices are for European supply: an Australian installer/supplier must still confirm local compliance, availability, enclosure and mounting before specifying imports. That regional purchasing check is separate from the now-documented ETS compatibility.

The bus supply and USB interface are reusable, and three actuator channels remain. A second independent light needs wiring and a control assignment, not another complete starter system. Dimming requires different output gear or a lighting gateway. App/remote-access servers are optional and not hidden in this subtotal.

Literal wiring types for the cost plan
Control: approved KNX TP twisted-pair installation cable; load: mains-rated lighting cable; commissioning: USB cable to SCN-USBR.02. This is not Ethernet.

Price basis and safety
Prices were checked on 8 November 2026 (Australia/Sydney), not obtained as quotations. Currency equivalents use the RBA rates for 6 November 2026: AUD 1 = USD 0.6900 = EUR 0.6161. Converted figures are not US/Australian retail offers or landed import prices. Tax treatment is stated beside the source price; shipping, duties, extra tax on imports, wiring, labour and commissioning services are excluded. Site-specific enclosures, backboxes, connectors and circuit protection must be allowed for where listed, not treated as free. Australian fixed mains work requires a licensed electrician. These are researched examples, not hardware-tested installations.
